Title: The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict

Author: Trenton Lee Stewart

Synopsis:

Before there was a Mysterious Benedict Society, there was simply a boy named Nicholas Benedict. Meet the boy who started it all….

Nine-year-old Nicholas Benedict has more problems than most children his age. Not only is he an orphan with an unfortunate nose, but he also has narcolepsy, a condition that gives him terrible nightmares and makes him fall asleep at the worst possible moments. Now he’s being sent to a new orphanage, where he will encounter vicious bullies, selfish adults, strange circumstances — and a mystery that could change his life forever. Luckily, he has one important thing in his favor: He’s a genius.

On his quest to solve the mystery, Nicholas finds enemies around every corner, but also friends in unexpected places — and discovers along the way that the greatest puzzle of all is himself.

My Review:

I love the Mysterious Benedict Society series. You can see that from my other book reviews. Well, when the fourth book came out I raced to Barnes & Noble, bought the book, got it signed, and I started reading it. (After I finished the book I was already reading – which I zipped through).

I loved this book. It was extremely well-written, and I liked the concept. Who wouldn’t like it? The smartest nine year old boy I’ve ever come across with two friends are going to find a treasure in the middle of the creepiest orphanage in the world. Isn’t that awesome! Also, I like how they made Nicholas (the nine year old boy, who you probably figured out is the main character) have narcolepsy, which is a permanent disease which makes people suddenly fall asleep when they are sad or have strong emotions. It put him in some interesting predicaments. My favorite character was Nicholas because in the beginning, he didn’t care about anyone but himself. Later in the book that changed and he even sacrificed something to help out Violet, one of his friends.

This was an awesome book, so I’m giving it a rating of 10 out of 10. I hope you have time to read this book, because it is by far one of the best books I’ve ever read in my entire life.
